Frequently asked questions

Where are TILEZE copper tile and mosaics made?

TILEZE copper tiles and mosaics are proudly handcrafted in the USA, right in the Heartland of America, at our manufacturing warehouse and studio in Kokomo, Indiana. Each piece is created in our workshop, where we develop our distinctive copper patinas in-house, then individually assemble, wrap, and hand-hammer our tiles and mosaics.

How do I clean TILEZE copper tile?

TILEZE copper tile is easy to care for. For routine cleaning, simply wipe the surface gently with a soft, damp cloth. If additional cleaning is needed, use a small amount of mild dish soap diluted with warm water, then wipe with clean water and dry with a soft cloth.

Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, harsh chemicals, acidic cleaners, bleach, ammonia, or metal polishes, as these may damage or alter the patina and protective finish.

Always test an incospicuous area or test piece before trying any other cleaning methods.

Are TILEZE copper tiles and mosaics suitable for wet areas?

TILEZE copper tiles and mosaics are suitable for areas where occasional moisture or splashing may occur, including kitchen backsplashes, bathroom backsplashes, vanity walls, bar areas, and shower walls.

However, because our tiles feature genuine copper, we do not recommend them for continuously wet or submerged applications, such as shower floors, steam showers, pools, fountains, or other areas subject to prolonged water exposure. Constant moisture, minerals, soaps, and cleaning products can affect the protective finish and alter the appearance of the copper patina over time.

For areas that may receive frequent direct water exposure, including shower floors, please contact TILEZE before ordering. We would be happy to discuss your specific project and help determine whether a TILEZE product is appropriate for the application.

As with any handcrafted copper surface, proper installation and gentle care are important to preserving the distinctive color, character, and beauty of your TILEZE tile.

Can TILEZE copper tile mosaics be installed on shower floors?

Yes, certain TILEZE copper tile can be considered for shower floor applications when properly installed and maintained. However, these require a special non-slip finish, as well as tiles suitable for flooring applications and must be special ordered.

Because TILEZE mosaics and tiles are handcrafted using genuine copper, regular contact with water, soaps, minerals, cleaning products, and foot traffic may gradually affect the protective finish and appearance of the copper over time.

For shower floor installations, please contact TILEZE before ordering. We would be happy to discuss your project!

Can TILEZE copper tile be installed outdoors?

TILEZE copper tiles and mosaics are suitable for many outdoor applications, particularly protected or covered surfaces. However, we recommend contacting TILEZE before using our products outdoors so we can discuss the specific application, climate, and level of exposure.

Because TILEZE products are made with genuine copper, prolonged exposure to sunlight, rain, moisture, temperature changes, and other outdoor conditions may gradually alter the color and appearance of the copper and its protective finish. These changes are a natural characteristic of real copper and should be considered when planning an exterior installation.

For a specific exterior project, please contact TILEZE before ordering. We would be happy to learn more about your project and help determine whether TILEZE copper tile is appropriate for the application.

What type of grout do you recommend?

For TILEZE copper tiles and mosaics, we recommend using an unsanded, non-abrasive grout to help protect the handcrafted copper surface and its unique patina during installation.

Our particular favorite to work with is TEC® Design FX® grout in Bronze. We love the way the bronze tone complements the warmth and natural variation of our copper patinas, creating a beautiful finished installation without distracting from the character of the tile.

Other grout brands and colors may also be used, provided the grout is appropriate for your application and will not scratch or abrade the copper surface.

As with any handcrafted decorative surface, we recommend testing the grout on a sample or inconspicuous area first before grouting the entire installation. During installation, avoid abrasive tools or aggressive scrubbing and remove excess grout from the copper surface promptly.

If you’re unsure which grout will work best with your TILEZE tile or mosaic, please contact us. We’re always happy to help with recommendations for your project.

Will the copper patina further over time?

Our protective finish is designed to preserve the original appearance and color of the patina and minimize natural oxidation. The tile will not patina further, as it would if left bare. As with any genuine metal surfaces, however, very subtle changes may occur over time depending on the environment, exposure, and care. These natural characteristics are part of the beauty and character of real copper.

Do I need to seal TILEZE copper tile?

No. TILEZE copper tiles and mosaics arrive with a protective finish already applied, so additional sealing is not necessary and not recommended.

We do not recommend applying additional sealers, waxes, metal polishes, or other coatings without first consulting TILEZE, as some products may react with or alter the existing finish and appearance of the copper.

For installations in high-moisture, high-traffic, or outdoor environments, please contact TILEZE before applying any additional protective product. We would be happy to discuss your specific application and recommend the best approach for maintaining the beauty of your handcrafted copper tile.

How soon will my order arrive?

Most TILEZE orders are ready to ship within approximately two weeks. If your selected tile or mosaic is already in stock, we may be able to fulfill and ship your order much sooner.

Because TILEZE products are handcrafted, some orders require additional production time. Our copper undergoes a multi-step artisan patination and finishing process, followed by the individual assembly and hand-finishing of each piece. This process takes time and is an important part of what gives every TILEZE creation its unique color, pattern, and character.

Larger orders, custom designs, bespoke pieces, and made-to-order products may require additional production time depending on the size and complexity of the project.

Once your order has shipped, delivery time will depend on the destination and shipping method. If you have a specific project deadline, please contact us before ordering. We’ll be happy to discuss current availability and estimated production time for your order.

What is your return policy?

We want you to be completely satisfied with your TILEZE purchase. Eligible products may be returned within 90 days of delivery for a refund, provided the product is returned in its original, sellable condition.

Returned products must be unused, uninstalled, undamaged, and suitable for resale. Products that have been installed, cut, altered, damaged, or otherwise modified are not eligible for return.

The buyer is responsible for all return shipping costs. We recommend carefully packaging returned products and using a trackable and insured shipping method, as TILEZE cannot be responsible for items lost or damaged during return transit.

Please contact TILEZE before returning your order for return instructions. Once the returned product has been received and inspected, an eligible refund will be issued to the original form of payment.
